Effects of Mythology in Indian Cinema:

We used to watch Indian classics, where the eldest son is more responsible depicts the character of lord Rama. weather it is the main stream Hindi Cinema or other regional or south Indian cinema, we found a little impression of mythological characters or stories from Mahabharata, Ramayana or Puranas.

If we take ‘Sholey’ Directed by Ramesh Sippy as an example, we found that two men Jay (Amitabh Bachchan) and Veeru (Dharmendra) are on a mission like Ram and Lakshman to demolish the terror of Gabbar. Gabbar (Amzad Khan) is also very similar like Ravana or other Asurs of Dandkaranya.

It was Vishwamitra in the epic who took Ram and Laxman on that justice tour to demolish the terror and win territories of Asurs. Similarly, Jay and Veeru are invited by Thakur Baldev Singh (Sanjeev Kapoor) in the movie.

Even the Jay and Veeru’s characters are inspired from the epics, Jay is more serious and sincere about the life and kind of a responsible which seems his character is inspired from Lord Rama in Ramayana. And Veeru’s character is little naughty, funny and risk taking which has a few similarities from Lord Krishna in Mahabharta.

Basanti is kidnapped by Gabbar, which is similar to the episode of Sita’s kidnapping by Ravana. In Basanti’s rescue mission, Veeru is injured as similarly Laxman was injured in Sita’s rescue in Ramayana. And in the end Jay has died, which is also depicts the same sentiment.

It’s not just Sholey, Rajneeti or Bahubali, there are many of them or you can say every cinema or art form is kind of a little or wholesome inspired from epics like Mahabharata, Ramayana, Puranas or folklores.Even the folklores are also inspired from the same.

The reason behind it, somehow, somewhere we are all inspired or subconsciously believe on them and have to follow them, it was more often in one-two or three decades ago, but now-a-days we have lot of contents available to entertain us and now we started follow them subconsciously.

However, epics are in blood of our fathers, and their fore-fathers and this information has transferred from generation to the next generation in our DNAs. We were very much adoptive and got our dopamine and started believing those characters as religion or another aspect as they are idols, Gods and we mean to know about them and worship, we all want to complete and be a God that’s why we are fond of such stories and feel the adrenaline rush and keep watching them till our last breathe.

It is a responsibility of filmmakers to provide such adductive content to his/her audience and keep entertaining them. It is an art to write such entertaining stories.
